Tee off with points, slopes, or angles!  Pillbug Golf features nice graphics, challenging problems, and great game play to give students fun, practical experience with these math skills. Pillbug Golf is the first release in the new Birds' Math Picnic series.
Each math skill has Beginner, Amateur, and Pro categories to fit a variety of student ability levels.  Students are challenged, but have a chance to see the real effects of wrong answers and correct their mistakes.  Pillbug golf includes a 360-degree protractor and a built-in calculator as accessories, but these are not available on every stroke, so that players are also encouraged to use mental math and estimation as well as mathematical tools.
Built-in help explains math skills and game play with textual descriptions.  The help screens for the three math skills also contain simple interactive displays that demonstrate the key concepts.
The unregistered Demo lets you play with Points at the Beginner level, but you are allowed to see the beginning problems and accessories on all the other skills and levels as well.
PowerMac (Yes, this includes iMac and all other new Macs) required for suitable playing speed.
Instructions
All help and instructions about math skills and game play are inside the game. Here are some additional directions for using the software:
Pillbug Golf can run at any monitor resolution. It may look best (or at least biggest) in 640x480 mode. You switch to the full-screen mode simply by pressing Apple-M. When you quit the game or press Apple-M again, your screen will be returned to the original resolution.
If you ever experience problems with the built-in resolution switching, you can always use the "Monitors" control panel (in the Apple Menu) instead.
If you give Pillbug Golf permission to change your screen automatically, the game will jump to full-screen mode every time you open up the game. To do so, enable the "Auto Resolution Switching" feature in the Options menu.
The Options menu also lets you enable/disable sounds and set the sound volume.
Use the space bar to show or hide the menubar, or to skip through music or animation.
Pillbug Golf should not be removed from its folder. If it is removed, it will still run, but without music and some sounds! Instead, move the entire folder when necessary, and make an alias of Pillbug Golf if you want to access it from the Desktop, Apple Menu, etc.
Points, slopes, and angles can be challenging concepts, so students may need a bit of human help getting started if they haven't had any experience with these skills.
